Learning to understand the difference between letters, words and sentences is tricky business, and takes time and lots of practise to crack! But never fear, we are great learners at Mengham Infants!
Today we have been exploring cutting up a sentence and then rebuilding it with exaggerated finger spaces. We then discuss how many words we have and then practise writing the sentence with finger spaces. After that we circle the words so we understand that even long words such as ‘quick’ which has 3 syllables is still a single word so must be written all be together. A common misconception is that the children think a word with more than 1 syllable needs finger spaces.
Lots of reading will help us understand this misconception and the rules around finger spaces 😃
